hi david
i am on chapter 7 stained glass effect, but for the life of me cannot find clouds in render or even render in fiters plz help love the book very in formative ....photoshop8 on a mac

It sounds like you have a corrupt settings file:

Quit Elements and launch it again.
When you get to the splash screen, click to launch the Editor.
Immediately after doing so, press Command, Option and Shift simultaneously.
A dialog will appear asking if you want to delete the settings file. Say yes.

You should now have everything back to normal.

thanks david

i did not have a lot of things that i wanted to keep (being new to both photography and elements) so i thought i would uninstall and reinstall while waiting for your reply and lo and behold i have lift off both render and clouds appear as if by magic;  but thank you for your prompt reply. once again very informative

i  think that working in photoshop and remaking photos like the parrot in the stained glass (chapter7 ) is outstanding ; but who thinks of the ideas . the steps taken to arrive at an outstanding end product

Thanks John. That one was mine. Often the concepts evolve from seeing similar images and working out how to reproduce them, other times it's just a complete idea from start to finish.
